Job Description

This AMO physicist job in Oxford joins Infleqtion’s quantum RF team at Kidlington. You will design and test Rydberg-atom sensors for radio-frequency fields. It needs a PhD in experimental atomic, molecular and optical physics.

At a glance

  • Role: AMO Physicist, Quantum RF
  • Department: R&D
  • Where: Kidlington, Oxford, UK; up to 2 days a week from home
  • Pay: Not stated; the posting lists a competitive salary and benefits
  • Posted: 22 October 2026
  • Apply: open until filled (re-checked 27 November 2026)

Why this role matters

Rydberg atoms can sense radio signals across a huge frequency range with one small cell. Infleqtion is turning this into products. The role suits an AMO postdoc ready for industry R&D.

What the quantum RF physicist does

  • Turn product needs into atomic system designs
  • Plan and lead research projects for future quantum RF sensors
  • Model, simulate and calculate designs that meet product targets
  • Plan and run test and verification
  • Integrate opto-mechanics, electronics and software into quantum devices
  • Write papers, proposals and reports, and present at workshops and conferences

What Infleqtion is looking for

  • A PhD in experimental atomic, molecular and optical (AMO) physics
  • Rydberg physics, especially Rydberg-atom electrometry
  • Working knowledge of control systems and signal processing, and a language such as Python, Rust or C++
  • Skill at debugging systems that mix optics, electronics, software and quantum devices
  • Substantial post-PhD experience controlling atoms, ions or molecules with light
  • A record of integrating complex hardware and software, and familiarity with tools such as SolidWorks, Zemax or Altium

Nice to have

  • Project management experience

Pay and location

The posting gives no salary figure. It lists a competitive salary, unlimited paid time off, a 10% company pension contribution, a stock option plan and private health cover after probation. The role is full time at Kidlington, with up to 2 days a week from home. Up to 10% travel may be needed. You must be able to lift 15 kg. Check UK work rights before you apply.

How to apply

Apply through the official Infleqtion job posting. Infleqtion’s posting does not give a closing date, so the role is open until filled; ResearchJobs.in will re-check this listing on 27 November 2026. Check the posting for location and work-authorisation details before you apply.

How to prepare for this application

  • Revise Rydberg electrometry: EIT, Autler-Townes splitting and how they turn an RF field into an optical signal.
  • Know the limits: what sets sensitivity and bandwidth in a vapour-cell RF sensor.
  • Show integration work: a system where you joined lasers, electronics and code into one working device.
  • Think product: how you would turn a customer need into specs for an atomic sensor.
  • Bring your tools: examples in Python or C++, and any Zemax or SolidWorks designs you made.
