Job Description
IIT Roorkee’s Department of Physics is hiring a Project Consultant for RASPAC, a project on reconfigurable and scalable photonic qubit architectures for quantum computing, led by Prof. Rajesh Kumar. The project is sponsored through the National Quantum Mission’s T-Hub at IIT Delhi, and the role includes setting up experiments and helping create a start-up from the project’s results.

Photonic quantum computers use particles of light as qubits, and integrated photonics puts the sources, circuits and detectors onto chips. Heterogeneous approaches combine different materials on one chip, while monolithic approaches build everything in a single platform such as silicon; choosing between them is a central engineering question for scaling up.
About the project consultant role
- Set up new experimental setups and install equipment
- Help the main Principal Investigator run the project smoothly, taking ownership of its aims and objectives
- Follow up on challenges that emerge during project implementation
- Co-supervise PG and UG theses and intern students working on RASPAC
- Take initiatives towards setting up a start-up company from the project’s outcomes
Eligibility
- Ph.D. in Science, Engineering or Engineering Science, or equivalent
- At least four years of research or industry experience, or both, focused on electronics or integrated photonics, or both
- Desirable: experience in silicon photonics and a record of publications or patents, or both
Open to Indian nationals only. Among equally qualified candidates, SC/ST candidates will be preferred. No TA/DA is paid for attending the interview.
Pay and duration
- Up to Rs 1,31,250 per month plus HRA (currently 10%)
- Till 31 March 2031 or the end of the project, whichever is earlier

How to prepare for this application
