Marie Curie PhD: Agent-Based Simulation of Social Behaviour in Pandemics at Stockholm University (SoCRISP)

Job Description

Stockholm University’s DSV is offering a Marie Skłodowska-Curie doctoral fellowship in the SoCRISP network on crisis preparedness. This project, “Citizens as social beings in a pandemic crisis”, combines social science concepts and theories with state-of-the-art epidemiological models to build realistic agent-based simulations that help policymakers decide on measures to limit the spread of disease. It includes two one-month internships, in Sweden and Austria.

About the SoCRISP network

Acting in Crisis: Understanding Social Complexity to improve Crisis Preparedness (SoCRISP) is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie doctoral network under Horizon Europe. Its universities and non-academic partners train 15 doctoral candidates in agent-based social simulation and related methods to improve crisis preparedness, with shared courses and consortium meetings in several countries. The positions start on 1 February 2027 or as soon as possible after.

How doctoral employment works at Stockholm University

Doctoral students are employed for up to the equivalent of four years of full-time study. The first contract is for up to one year and is then renewed for up to two years at a time, and up to 20% of working time may go to teaching, research or administration. What Stockholm University is looking for

• General entry: a second-cycle degree, or 240 credits including 60 at second-cycle level, or equivalent knowledge
• Specific entry (Information Society): at least 60 second-cycle credits in computer and systems sciences, the humanities, behavioural science, education, health care, psychology, communication studies or a relevant subject, plus a degree project of at least 15 credits
• English at CEFR level B2
• MSCA rules: no doctorate on the first day of employment, and not resident or mainly active in Sweden for more than 12 months in the 36 months before starting

Nice to have

• Programming and simulation experience (for example NetLogo, Python or Java)
• Background in social science or epidemiological modelling

Pay and location

SoCRISP fellows are employed by Stockholm University on a fixed salary; the advert gives no figure but mentions a competitive salary and support for books and conference travel.
