Nikita Mishra

Environmental professional with about four years of experience in wetland conservation, nature-based solutions, climate resilience and carbon projects in India, Bangladesh and Ghana. Technical Officer at Wetlands International South Asia, New Delhi (joined as Junior Technical Officer in July 2023).

Work and expertise: national-scale wetland assessments for MoEFCC, including changes in extent across more than 10,000 wetlands (1985–2022) and a first national assessment of condition and drivers across 851 wetlands; a national framework prioritising over 6,000 wetlands as potential OECMs under the GBF 30×30 target (presented at the Conservation Asia Congress 2026); Integrated and Framework Management Plans for Ramsar sites and notified wetlands; wetlands as nature-based solutions in district disaster management planning; ecosystem services assessment (RAWES, ESSVA); and peatland, waterbird and ecological fieldwork. Member of the Wetland Inventory Working Group of India.

Earlier experience: afforestation, reforestation and blue carbon projects under VCS, Gold Standard, CDM, GCC and CCB Standards at Climetrek Pvt. Ltd. (2022–2023).

Publications: two Elsevier book chapters (2022 and 2026), two manuscripts under review on wetland OECMs and the Wetland Extent Index, and several management plans and technical reports.

Tools and methods: Google Earth Engine, QGIS, ArcGIS, ENVI and UAV mapping with Sentinel, Landsat and MODIS data; R and Python data pipelines, trend analysis and machine learning (Random Forest, SVM); interactive dashboards; METT, EIA and field survey methods.
