Job Description
PsiQuantum is hiring a senior engineer for system calibration of electro-optic subsystems in Milpitas, California. Its prototype quantum computing modules need regular calibration to generate single photons and entangled states reliably. This engineer owns the calibration strategy for electro-optic components from concept to deployment, models how calibrations interact at system level, prototypes them on benchtop setups, and writes the control software that runs them, with the goal of cutting calibration time and keeping the system up.
At a glance
- Role: Senior Engineer, System Calibration (Electro-Optics)
- Location: Milpitas, California, USA
- Posted: 29 April 2026
- Experience: MS + 5 years or PhD + 3 years in industry
- Apply: open until filled (re-checked 13 October 2026)
About the calibration role
- Own the end-to-end calibration strategy for electro-optic subsystems, focused on uptime and scale
- Lead calibration risk analysis across hardware, firmware and software, and set requirements for those teams
- Build models of how component calibrations interact in the full system and track calibration time against uptime
- Prototype calibrations on benchtop setups and write control software to run them
- Lead cross-functional groups on high-risk calibrations and support root-cause analysis
What PsiQuantum is looking for
- An MS with 5+ years or a PhD with 3+ years of industry experience in electrical or optical engineering, physics or a related field
- Experience building systems that span optical and electronic hardware, firmware, software and data acquisition
- Hands-on design, characterisation or calibration of electro-optic devices and systems
- Turning complex technical ideas into clear requirements and models
Nice to have
- Integrated photonics, RF systems or high-speed optical switching
- Scaling calibration procedures in high-reliability systems
- System-level modelling or uptime analysis
- Interest in quantum computing
Pay and location
PsiQuantum pays by US geographic zone. The posted base ranges are $182,200 to $214,100 (Zone 1: Bay Area and New York), $164,000 to $192,700 (Zone 2), $145,800 to $171,300 (Zone 3) and $127,600 to $149,900 (Zone 4). Equity and benefits are extra.

How to prepare for this application
- Calibration story: bring an example where you automated a calibration and measured the time saved.
- Systems view: be ready to discuss how calibrations interact and drift in a large system.
- Software: show control code you wrote that runs on real hardware.
- Cross-team: the role leads working groups; prepare an example of driving agreement between teams.
About PsiQuantum
PsiQuantum, founded in 2016, is building a large, fault-tolerant quantum computer on silicon photonics, with chips made in commercial semiconductor fabs such as GlobalFoundries. It has announced government-backed builds of utility-scale machines in Brisbane, Australia, and Chicago, USA.
