Job Description

Q*Bird is hiring a Network and Systems Engineer to look after customer deployments of its quantum networking devices as well as the company’s own IT infrastructure. You will prepare devices for deployment, help integrate them into customer networks, train customers who are new to quantum networking, and keep Q*Bird’s LAN, VPN and Linux servers reliable. It suits a security-minded engineer who is curious about protecting networks against future quantum computers and about the quantum internet more broadly.

What the role covers

  • Prepare quantum networking devices for deployment: install software, validate readiness and manage certificates and security configuration
  • Support integration into customer networks: network configuration, system integration, software and firmware updates, and troubleshooting
  • Onboard and train customers, and be a trusted technical contact while they learn the technology
  • Maintain Q*Bird’s LAN, VPN, Linux servers and other infrastructure, and give day-to-day IT support to staff
  • Improve workflows through automation and tooling

What Q*Bird is looking for

  • 1+ years in network engineering, system administration, customer-support engineering or similar
  • Troubleshooting of complex networking and Linux problems, and experience with production systems and customers
  • A solid grasp of TCP/IP, VLANs, VPNs, routing, switching and VRFs, plus firewalls and access control
  • Linux administration, and experience with Azure, Docker or similar platforms
  • Monitoring with SNMP, Syslog, InfluxDB or Grafana, and automation in Python or Bash
  • Experience with secure communication systems, and a service-minded, clear way of communicating
