Job Description

Welinq is hiring an AMO physicist for its Next-Generation Technology Team in Paris to develop optical-tweezer platforms for quantum networking. You will design, build, optimise and integrate neutral-atom hardware (trapping, transporting and manipulating atoms) and its use inside neutral-atom quantum processors, and help optimise Welinq’s qubit–photon interface, the component that lets quantum processors exchange quantum information over light. The devices you develop form the core of Welinq’s quantum networking products.

At a glance

  • Role: AMO Physicist – Neutral-Atom Quantum Systems and Optical Tweezers
  • Team: Next-Generation Technology (hardware)
  • Location: Paris, France
  • Degree: PhD in atomic physics or quantum optics, focused on AMO and optical tweezers
  • Apply: open until filled (re-checked 14 October 2026)

What the role covers

  • Design and optimise Welinq’s qubit–photon interface with the engineering team
  • Lead the development, assembly and testing of optical tweezers and quantum hardware systems
  • Run experiments and analyse data to evaluate the performance and efficiency of quantum hardware
  • Integrate neutral-atom systems for atom trapping, transport and manipulation within neutral-atom quantum processors
  • Keep up with advances in quantum technology, AMO physics and neutral-atom platforms, and share them with the team

What Welinq is looking for

  • A PhD in atomic physics or quantum optics, with a focus on AMO physics and optical tweezers
  • A strong background in quantum optics and atomic physics
  • Experience with atom trapping, optical tweezers and single-atom imaging
  • Experience preparing coherent atomic states in optical traps, and moving, preparing and reconfiguring atom arrays
  • Programming in Python, MATLAB or C++ for analysis, simulation and automation
  • Good problem solving, clear communication and professional English

How to prepare for this application

  • Read Welinq's 2026 announcements on networked quantum computing with Pasqal and OVHcloud to understand the product direction.
  • Prepare a clear account of an optical-tweezer or atom-array experiment you ran, including what limited its performance.
  • Think about how a qubit–photon interface is characterised (efficiency, fidelity, rate) and be ready to discuss it.
  • Bring analysis or control code you wrote for your experiments.

About Welinq

Welinq is a Paris start-up building quantum networks that link quantum processors (QPUs) inside data centres, based on neutral-atom hardware and qubit–photon interfaces. In 2026 it announced collaborations with Pasqal, OVHcloud and NVIDIA's CUDA-Q platform for networked and distributed quantum computing.
