Job Description

DTU Electro’s GasLab is hiring a two-year postdoc in gas-filled hollow-core fibre lasers, ultrafast lasers and nonlinear optics. The researcher will develop high-power near-infrared ultrafast sources and gas-filled fibre systems for fundamental studies and new photonic applications, and help mentor Ph.D. students.

At a glance

  • Post: Postdoc
  • Lab: GasLab, DTU Electro
  • Duration: 2 years
  • Apply by: 21 October 2026
  • Apply: 21 October 2026 (23:59 Danish time)

What the post involves

  • Research ultrafast nonlinear optics in gas-filled hollow-core fibres
  • Develop high-power near-infrared ultrafast laser sources and gas-filled fibre systems
  • Model nonlinear optics and fibre physics
  • Co-supervise Ph.D. students and keep a safe, organised lab

Why this post matters

Gas-filled hollow-core fibres open new ways to make laser light at wavelengths and powers that solid fibres cannot reach. The field is small and specialised, so hands-on experience from a lab like this is valuable for both academic and laser-industry careers, and the lab offers the infrastructure to explore genuinely new physics.

What DTU is looking for

  • A Ph.D. in optics/photonics, molecular physics, optical engineering or a related field
  • Experimental experience building gas-filled hollow-core fibre lasers and conventional ultrafast lasers
  • Hollow-core fibre and nonlinear-optics modelling experience
  • Fluent written and spoken English

Nice to have

  • Interest in exploring new physics in nonlinear photonics

Pay and location

Salary follows the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations, with supplements negotiable under DTU’s salary structure for scientific staff; the ad does not give a figure.

How to apply

Apply through the official DTU page. The closing date is 21 October 2026 (23:59 Danish time). Apply online through DTU’s recruitment site with the documents the ad lists (usually a CV, cover letter, degree certificates and, for postdocs, a list of publications).

How to prepare for this application

  • Lab-built systems: describe lasers you built.
  • Hollow-core experience: it is required, so lead with it.
  • Modelling: show nonlinear fibre simulations.
  • Deadline: 21 October 2026.
