What the photolithography engineer does
- Model and simulate the optics of scribe-line alignment and overlay marks, and recommend mark designs
- Plan projects to fix overlay problems for the current node and the next two (N, N+1, N+2)
- Work with scanner and metrology vendors’ application teams to improve overlay marks
- Find root causes of hard lithography problems
- Train other lithography engineers in simulation, and standardise methods across fabs
- Write reports and advise senior managers on overlay issues
Why this role matters
Each new memory node packs features closer together. Layers must line up to within a few nanometres. How well they line up depends on how the marks are designed and read by light. This role applies optics directly to one of the hardest limits in chip making.
What Micron is looking for
- Strong understanding of photolithography
- Understanding of optics and optical metrology
- Knowing how lens aberrations, scanner chuck differences and process changes affect overlay
- Knowledge of alignment and overlay mark types, and how mark design drives overlay error
- Good links with cross-functional teams and suppliers, and strong communication
