Job Description
IIT Delhi is hiring a JRF in machine learning for 6G wireless systems. The post is in the Department of Electrical Engineering, New Delhi. The project studies and designs Bayesian machine learning methods for 6G networks. A Project Assistant (Tech.) post is open under the same advertisement.
At a glance
- Posts: Junior Research Fellow (1) and Project Assistant (Tech.) (1)
- Where: Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Delhi, New Delhi
- Pay: JRF: ₹37,000 a month plus 27% HRA
- Duration: Contractual, renewed yearly, up to the end of the project (10 June 2029)
- Apply by: 13 October 2026, 5:00 pm, by email
The advertisement is IITD/IRD/259/2026, dated 28 September 2026. The project is “Study, Design and Analysis of Bayesian Machine Learning-based Solutions for 6G Wireless Systems” (RM00204G). It is funded by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF, formerly SERB). The Principal Investigator is Prof. Anupama Rajoriya of the Department of Electrical Engineering. Only Indian nationals may apply.
What the 6G machine learning JRF works on
- Bayesian machine learning methods for 6G wireless systems, as set out in the project title
- Design and analysis of these methods, with simulation in MATLAB or Python
- Work under the PI in the Department of Electrical Engineering
- The Project Assistant (Tech.) post supports the same project and suits a graduate with AI/ML or wireless research experience
The advertisement gives the project title and the skills needed. It does not list day-to-day duties. The post name is printed as “Jr. Research Fellow) – (01)”, with a stray bracket.
Why this role matters
6G networks will need to adapt to changing channels and heavy traffic with little data to learn from. Bayesian methods give an answer and say how sure they are, which helps a network decide when to trust a model. This JRF gives you funded research time on that problem at IIT Delhi. JRF posts on sponsored projects are also a common route into a PhD.
Eligibility
- JRF: a first-class Master’s and Bachelor’s in EE, ECE or CSE; integrated postgraduate degrees count
- JRF: good programming skills in MATLAB or Python
- JRF: GATE qualification; this may be relaxed for CFTI graduates with a CGPA above 8.0 (80% aggregate)
- Project Assistant (Tech.): a Bachelor’s in EE, ECE or CSE, at least one year of research experience in AI/ML or wireless communication, and good MATLAB or Python skills
- Indian nationals only; SC/ST candidates may get a 5% relaxation in marks
IIT Delhi may set higher criteria for shortlisting. Shortlisted names go up on the IRD website with the online interview details. Only shortlisted candidates are told about the interview. A retired government employee’s pay would be fixed under IRD norms.
Pay and duration
- Junior Research Fellow: ₹37,000 a month plus HRA at 27%
- Project Assistant (Tech.): a pay slab from ₹39,420 to ₹51,420 a month, plus HRA at 27%
- Contract renewable yearly, or until the project ends on 10 June 2029, whichever is earlier
How to apply
Download Form No. IRD/REC-4 from the IIT Delhi IRD recruitment page. Fill it in with your marks or division and your work experience. Email it to the PI, Prof. Anupama Rajoriya, at the address given in the advertisement. Put the advertisement number, IITD/IRD/259/2026, in the subject line.
Key dates

How to prepare for this application
- Use Form IRD/REC-4 as issued and put IITD/IRD/259/2026 in the email subject
- Keep your GATE scorecard ready; if you are a CFTI graduate using the CGPA relaxation, show your CGPA clearly
- Revise Bayesian inference basics: priors, posteriors, variational inference and sparse Bayesian learning
- Know one 6G topic well, such as channel estimation for massive MIMO, and how learning methods help there
- Share MATLAB or Python code from a signal processing or ML project, with a short note on what it does
