About the work
The Board of Electors invites applications from people whose work is connected with veterinary science, ideally in research aligned with One Health.
Alongside the professorship, the postholder serves as Head of the Department of Veterinary Medicine for five years in the first instance, with the option of renewal, providing strategic vision, intellectual direction and leadership for one of the world’s leading centres of veterinary teaching, research and clinical excellence.
The Department is the Veterinary School of the University of Cambridge. A combined chair and headship is a substantial commitment: it is a leadership post with a research programme attached, and worth reading as such.
What you need
- An outstanding record in veterinary science, ideally aligned with One Health
- The experience and appetite to lead a department as well as a research group
- Read the official further particulars before applying
Pay
The studentship is advertised as fully funded. The advertisement gives no figure, so confirm the stipend and fee cover with the department before you accept.

How to prepare for this application
- This is half a leadership job. The headship runs five years, so address management experience directly.
- One Health is the stated preference. Frame your research against it if you can.
- Quote the reference, PP51038. Cambridge asks for it on the form and in every email about the post.
- Check your right to work in the UK. Every Cambridge advert carries this condition, and it is the usual reason an overseas application stalls.
