CSIR-NAL in Bengaluru is hiring one Junior Research Fellow for a BRNS-funded project on thin films. The JRF will deposit films by sputtering and study how they behave in high-temperature steam. Applications must reach NAL by 16 October 2026.

Why this role matters
Coatings that survive hot steam matter for reactors, turbines and engines. A JRF here trains you on deposition and testing tools at a national lab, and the project is set up to carry you into the SRF stage.
Eligibility
- First-class M.Sc. in Physics, Materials Science or Chemistry
- CSIR-UGC NET (lectureship qualification also accepted) or a valid GATE score
- Desirable: experience with thin films, sputtering and oxidation studies
- Age: up to 28 years on the last date, with 5 years’ relaxation for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC; PwD as per CSIR/GoI rules
The posts are open to Indian nationals and Overseas Citizens of India. Shortlisted candidates are called for interview by email; the date also appears on the NAL website. No travel allowance is paid. The ad asks you to stay on the project for at least one year, and to give one month’s notice if you leave.
Pay and duration
- ₹37,000 a month plus HRA as applicable

How to prepare for this application
- Revise sputtering: DC versus RF sputtering, target poisoning, and how pressure and power change film quality.
