Job Description

This SRF in magnetic sensor fabrication at CSIR-NAL Bengaluru suits candidates with cleanroom and thin-film experience. The fellow will make and test xMR sensors (AMR, GMR and TMR) on a MeitY-funded project. Applications must reach NAL by 16 October 2026.

At a glance

  • Post: Senior Research Fellow, one post
  • Where: CSIR-National Aerospace Laboratories, Bengaluru
  • Funded by: Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY)
  • Fellowship: ₹42,000 a month + HRA as applicable
  • Duration: 3 years
  • Age limit: 32 years
  • Apply by: 16 October 2026 (by post)

The advertisement is Advt. No. 14/2026. It also offers one JRF post on a BRNS project, which we list separately. Both posts use the same application form and address.

About the SRF in magnetic sensor fabrication

  • Fabricate magnetic sensors based on AMR, GMR and TMR (xMR) technology
  • Deposit thin films by DC and RF magnetron sputtering
  • Use cleanroom steps: photolithography, mask alignment, lift-off, dry etching and wafer-level patterning
  • Characterise the sensors and analyse the data

Why this role matters

Magnetic sensors sit in phones, cars, aircraft and navigation systems. This post gives hands-on cleanroom fabrication experience on sensors developed in India, a skill that the chip and sensor industry hires for.

Eligibility

  • First-class M.Sc. in Physics, Materials Science or Electronics, with at least 2 years of research after the M.Sc. and one paper in an SCI journal; or
  • M.Tech in Nanotechnology or Electronics with at least 60% marks
  • NET or GATE qualified candidates get preference
  • Desirable: hands-on device fabrication with thin-film deposition and cleanroom microfabrication
  • Age: up to 32 years on the last date, with 5 years’ relaxation for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC; PwD as per CSIR/GoI rules

The posts are open to Indian nationals and Overseas Citizens of India. Shortlisted candidates are called for interview by email; the date also appears on the NAL website. No travel allowance is paid. The ad asks you to stay on the project for at least one year, and to give one month’s notice if you leave.

Pay and duration

  • ₹42,000 a month plus HRA as applicable
  • Duration of 3 years under the MeitY project
  • No pay is given beyond the fellowship

How to apply

Apply by post. Download the application form at the end of the CSIR-NAL advertisement (PDF). Send it with a recent passport photo and copies of your Class 10, Class 12, degree and higher certificates, plus experience certificates. Use a sealed cover marked “Application for the post of JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOW / SENIOR RESEARCH FELLOW”, Advt. No. 14/2026. It must reach The Sr. Controller of Administration, National Aerospace Laboratories, P.B. No. 1779, HAL Airport Road, Kodihalli, Bengaluru 560017 on or before 16 October 2026.

Key dates

  • Last date for applications to reach NAL: 16 October 2026
  • Interview: date sent by email to shortlisted candidates

How to prepare for this application

  • Know the physics: anisotropic, giant and tunnelling magnetoresistance, and why TMR gives the biggest signal.
  • Walk through a process flow: from a bare wafer to a patterned sensor, step by step, with the main risks.
  • Talk about sputtering: how you set power, pressure and gas flow for a thin magnetic stack.
  • Bring your paper: the SCI paper is required for the M.Sc. route, so be ready to explain it in detail.
  • Post early: the form must reach NAL by 16 October. See more SRF jobs.
