Job Description
This JRF in post-quantum cryptography at IIIT Kalyani is for two Junior Research Fellows. They will design code-based PQC algorithms and analyse their security, on a TTDF Telecom Centre of Excellence project. Apply by 23 October 2026.
At a glance
- Post: Junior Research Fellow (JRF), two posts
- Where: Computer Science and Engineering, IIIT Kalyani, West Bengal
- PI / Co-PI: Dr Debasish Bera / Dr Bhaskar Biswas, Assistant Professors (CSE)
- Funded by: TTDF (Telecom Centre of Excellence) project
- Fellowship: ₹37,000 a month + HRA, as per institute norms
- Project tenure: 4 years
- Apply by: 23 October 2026: hard copy by post and soft copy by email
The advertisement is Advt. No. IIITK/Rectt/TTDFQT_SRIC-JRF/2026/11, dated 30 September 2026. The project is “Design and Development of Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) Algorithms and Security Analysis: Code Based”.
About the post-quantum cryptography JRF
- Research on code-based post-quantum cryptography, with the PI
- Help complete the project on time
- Write first drafts of reports, programs, papers and patents from the project
Why this role matters
Large quantum computers would break the public-key schemes that protect telecom and banking today. Countries are now moving to post-quantum algorithms, and people who can design and attack them are in short supply.
Eligibility
- M.E./M.Tech in a relevant area with at least 6.5 CGPA or 60%; or
- B.E./B.Tech in a relevant area with at least 7.5 CGPA or 70%, and GATE or NET qualified; or
- M.Sc. in a relevant area with at least 6.5 CGPA or 60%
- Desirable: GATE/NET, coding in C or Python, and good written and spoken communication
- Also useful: programming, digital VLSI design (from algorithm to chip), and coding theory or cryptology
Shortlisted candidates are told the interview date by email. The post is purely contractual. IIIT Kalyani may leave the posts unfilled. Candidates arrange their own stay in Kalyani, and no TA/DA is paid. Selected candidates are expected to register for a full-time PhD at IIIT Kalyani as per institute norms.
Pay and duration
- ₹37,000 a month plus HRA, inclusive as per institute norms
- The project runs for 4 years
How to apply
Fill the form given in the IIIT Kalyani advertisement (PDF). Send the hard copy by post or courier to the Registrar, Indian Institute of Information Technology Kalyani, IIIT/A-23, Ward No. 18, Kalyani, Nadia 741235. Also email a soft copy, with all mark sheets and any GATE/NET score card, to recruitment@iiitkalyani.ac.in, debasish@iiitkalyani.ac.in and bhaskar@iiitkalyani.ac.in. Both must be in by 23 October 2026.

How to prepare for this application
- Know the code-based schemes: McEliece, Classic McEliece, BIKE and HQC, and where they stand in NIST's PQC process.
- Revise coding theory: linear codes, Goppa codes, syndrome decoding and why decoding random codes is hard.
- Learn the main attacks: information-set decoding and how key sizes are chosen to resist it.
- Show code: a C or Python implementation of any cipher or decoder, with timing numbers.
- Send both copies: the post copy and the email copy are both required by 23 October. Use our Find a supervisor page to compare cryptography labs.
