Job Description
This CPU power modeling job in Bangalore is with Qualcomm India’s Hardware Engineering group. You will model how much power Qualcomm’s CPU clusters use, before and after silicon. The work links CPU events to measured energy.
At a glance
- Position: CPU Power Modeling & Characterization Engineer, Staff (full time, on site, job 3087721)
- Employer: Qualcomm India Private Limited
- Where: Bengaluru, India
- Experience: The description asks for at least 7 years (see eligibility below)
- Apply: open until filled (re-checked 5 November 2026)
What the CPU power modeling engineer does
- Build CPU power models from micro-architectural events, PMU/EMON counters and DPM frameworks
- Model power both unconstrained and under hardware limits, including limiters, DVFS, temperature and throttling
- Model dynamic power, leakage and the behaviour of each power rail
- Lead DPM weight characterization using simulation, emulation and silicon data across workloads
- Correlate CPU event counts with measured silicon power and debug the gaps
- Extend DPM coverage by adding new CPU events and diagnostics
Why this role matters
Battery life and heat decide how a phone or laptop chip performs. Power models built on CPU events let architects trade power against performance long before silicon exists. This role works on Qualcomm’s high-performance, low-power CPU clusters.
What Qualcomm is looking for
- Two experience levels appear on the posting. Qualcomm’s standard minimum is a Bachelor’s in CS, EE or a related field with 2+ years of hardware experience, a Master’s with 1+ year, or a PhD. The role description itself asks for at least 7 years of experience. Expect the 7-year bar to apply
- A strong understanding of CPU micro-architecture
- Hands-on DPM, EMON or PMU-based power modeling
- Pre-silicon and post-silicon power correlation
- Python or Perl, and data analysis
Pay and location
The posting does not state pay. It is an on-site role in Bengaluru. Qualcomm says its careers site is for individual applicants only and it does not accept agency submissions.
How to apply
Apply through the official Qualcomm job posting. Qualcomm’s posting does not give a closing date, so the role is open until filled; ResearchJobs.in will re-check this listing on 5 November 2026. Check the posting for location and work-authorisation details before you apply.

How to prepare for this application
- Prepare one power model you built end to end: the events you chose, how you fitted the weights and the final error on silicon
- Revise dynamic and leakage power, and how DVFS and temperature change each
- Be ready to discuss how you debug a gap between modelled and measured power on a real workload
- Know the basics of CPU pipelines, caches and branch prediction, and which events drive power in each
- Bring a Python or Perl example of how you processed large counter traces
