Job Description

This formulation scientist job in Hyderabad is in Dr. Reddy’s Formulation R&D team. You will design, optimise and scale up manufacturing processes for topical medicines such as creams and gels. The work runs from lab batches to exhibit batches and regulatory filings.

At a glance

  • Position: Formulation Scientist, Process Development (Topical); full time, permanent (ref. REF28823Z)
  • Where: Hyderabad, India; on site
  • Team: Research & Development, Formulation R&D (IPDO business unit)
  • Degree: Master’s in Pharmaceutical or Chemical Engineering
  • Experience: 3–6 years in process development or manufacturing
  • Apply: open until filled (re-checked 5 November 2026)

What the formulation scientist does

  • Evaluate development strategies and design and optimise pharmaceutical processes
  • Work out batch sizes for early development and for commercial production
  • Do scale-up calculations and take processes from lab scale to production scale
  • Handle exhibit batches, with the activities and documents regulators need
  • Write development reports, process validation protocols and parts of regulatory filings
  • Work with other teams to improve processes, fix problems and keep product quality steady

Why this role matters

A topical product that works in a 1 kg lab batch can fail at 500 kg. Mixing, heating and cooling all change with scale. Scale-up scientists decide whether a generic medicine reaches patients on time, and the exhibit batches they run are the ones regulators review.

What Dr. Reddy’s is looking for

  • Master’s in Pharmaceutical Engineering or Chemical Engineering
  • 3–6 years of experience in process development or manufacturing
  • Experience optimising, developing and troubleshooting processes for topical dosage forms
  • Hands-on end-to-end scale-up experience
  • A deep understanding of process techniques and equipment
  • Knowledge of deficiency management and product validation

Nice to have

  • Experience improving manufacturing processes
  • Experience with oral solid formulations
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills

Pay and location

The posting does not state pay. Dr. Reddy’s lists benefits including joining and relocation support, maternity and paternity benefits, medical cover for you and your family, and life cover. The role is on site in Hyderabad.

  • Be ready to explain how you answer a regulator's deficiency letter on a process or validation question
  • Know the basics of process validation stages and what goes into an exhibit batch report
  • Brush up on equipment such as homogenisers and planetary mixers, and how their geometry affects scale-up
