Job Description

This machine learning research scientist job in Bangalore is with GE Vernova Advanced Research. You will build AI and computer vision methods for inspecting and diagnosing large energy equipment. The role expects papers and patents as well as working prototypes.

At a glance

  • Position: Research Scientist – Machine Learning (full time, requisition R5049219)
  • Where: Bengaluru, India
  • Degree: PhD from IISc or an IIT with 0–2 years of experience, or a Master’s from IISc or an IIT with 5+ years
  • Focus: Visual inspection, anomaly detection, prognostics and diagnostics
  • Relocation: Relocation help is offered
  • Apply: open until filled (re-checked 12 November 2026)

What the ML research scientist does

  • Develop new AI, machine learning and computer vision algorithms for process and product innovation
  • Analyse large data sets, with a focus on vision-based diagnostics, inspection and prognostics for energy equipment
  • Design and tune models such as CNNs and generative models for performance and scale
  • Design experiments to test how well and how reliably the methods work
  • Build prototypes and proofs of concept that solve real problems
  • Write invention disclosures, support patent filings, publish in journals and present at conferences

Why this role matters

Turbines, generators and grid equipment are costly to stop and inspect. Vision-based AI can spot defects early and cut downtime. The posting is unusual in welcoming a fresh PhD with 0–2 years of experience, so it is a real first industry research job for new graduates from IISc and the IITs.

What GE Vernova is looking for

  • PhD from a premier Indian institution (IISc, IITs) with 0–2 years of relevant experience, or a Master’s from one with 5+ years in AI/ML
  • Hands-on machine learning and computer vision: image processing, object detection, segmentation, CNNs and Vision Transformers
  • Experience applying these to industrial inspection, image classification or real-time detection
  • Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, OpenCV, pandas and NumPy, with good software practice such as Git
  • A good record of peer-reviewed papers in AI/ML, computer vision or related fields
  • Clear communication and teamwork

Pay and location

The posting does not state pay. The role is based in Bengaluru, and GE Vernova offers relocation help.

How to apply

Apply through the official GE Vernova job posting. GE Vernova’s posting does not give a closing date, so the role is open until filled; ResearchJobs.in will re-check this listing on 12 November 2026. Check the posting for location and work-authorisation details before you apply.

How to prepare for this application

  • Prepare a 15-minute talk on your best vision paper: the problem, the data, the model and what it improved
  • Be ready to discuss anomaly detection with very few defect examples: self-supervised, one-class or synthetic-data methods
  • Revise segmentation and detection architectures, and when a Vision Transformer beats a CNN on small industrial data sets
  • Think about how you would test a model before it inspects real equipment: metrics, failure cases and false alarms
  • Read about GE Vernova's gas, wind and grid businesses so you can link your work to real equipment

About GE Vernova Advanced Research

GE Vernova is an energy company formed from GE's power, wind and electrification businesses. Its Advanced Research organisation is the central research team for these businesses. The posting says it has more than 400 researchers.
