Job Description
This JRF job in quantum information theory is in the Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Delhi. The ANRF project studies the capacity of multi-user classical and quantum information tasks under real-world limits. It suits a GATE-qualified graduate in EE, CS, maths or physics.
At a glance
- Post: Junior Research Fellow, 1 post
- Where: Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Delhi, Hauz Khas, New Delhi
- Pay: ₹37,000 a month + HRA at 27%
- Duration: Renewed yearly, up to the project end (7 July 2029)
- Apply by: 26 October 2026, 5:00 pm, by email
The project is “Finding the capacity of multiterminal classical and quantum information theoretic tasks under realistic constraints” (RM00210G_SN). The Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), formerly SERB, funds it. The Principal Investigator is Prof. Aditya Nema of the Department of Electrical Engineering. The advertisement is IITD/IRD/279/2026, dated 13 October 2026. It is open to Indian nationals only. The ad prints the post name with a stray bracket, “Jr. Research Fellow) – (01)”; it means one JRF post.
About the quantum information theory project
- Study capacity limits of multi-user (multiterminal) communication tasks, classical and quantum
- Work through proofs and bounds with the PI
- Read and present recent papers in quantum and classical information theory
- Help write up results for papers and project reports
The advertisement does not list duties. The points above describe typical JRF work on a theory project with this title. Ask the PI for the exact tasks at interview.
Why this role matters
Information theory sets the hard limits on how much data any channel can carry, classical or quantum. Working out these limits for many users at once is an open problem. A JRF here is good training for a PhD in quantum information.
Eligibility
- BE/BTech, or BSc + MSc, with 75% or CGPA 7.5 or above, and GATE qualified in EE, CS, Maths or Physics (without an MTech)
- Or an MTech with CGPA 7.5 or above
- Strongly desired: expertise in quantum information theory, quantum error correction or classical information theory
- NET/GATE may be relaxed for graduates of CFTIs with CGPA above 8.0 (80% aggregate marks)
- Indian nationals only; no age limit is stated in the advertisement
Only shortlisted candidates are called for an online interview. Their names and interview details appear at ird.iitd.ac.in/shortlisted. IIT Delhi may set higher shortlisting criteria. SC/ST candidates may get a 5% relaxation in marks. The post is contractual with consolidated pay, renewed yearly or up to the project end, whichever is earlier.
Pay and duration
- ₹37,000 a month (consolidated) plus HRA at 27%
- Contract renewed yearly, or up to the project end (7 July 2029), whichever is earlier
How to apply
