Job Description

BRIC-ILS Bhubaneswar has opened its PhD JRF admission in life sciences for 17 posts. You need your own national fellowship, such as CSIR-UGC JRF, DBT-JRF or ICMR-JRF. Apply online by 9 November 2026.

  • Posts: 17 Junior Research Fellows leading to a PhD
  • Where: BRIC-Institute of Life Sciences, Bhubaneswar, Odisha
  • Pay: As per the norms of your funding agency (DST, DBT, CSIR, UGC or ICMR); the ad gives no figure
  • Fee: Rs 500 online; SC, ST and PwD candidates are exempt
  • Apply by: 9 November 2026, online

The advertisement is No. 38/2026, dated 13 October 2026. The posts are spread over 11 faculty groups. Areas include thermostable protein design, extracellular vesicles as biomaterials, epigenetics and relapse in acute myeloid leukaemia, human and medical genetics, plant non-coding RNAs, and abiotic stress in mung bean. The ad lists every group and its number of seats. Two groups prefer people with bioinformatics or computational biology skills.

What the BRIC-ILS PhD JRF programme offers

  • A Junior Research Fellowship that leads to a PhD at BRIC-ILS
  • A choice of lab: in the final round you meet the faculty and state your lab preferences
  • Research across protein science, biomaterials, cancer biology, genetics, plant biology and microbiology

Why this role matters

Few institutes publish a clear PhD timeline. BRIC-ILS gives every date up to the final results. A fellowship holder can plan the move and still keep other options open. The list of groups is broad, so most life science master’s graduates will find a fit.

Eligibility

  • M.Sc., M.Tech., M.Pharm., M.V.Sc. or a 4-year graduate programme in life sciences or an allied subject, such as biochemistry, biotechnology, bioinformatics, biophysics, chemistry or microbiology
  • At least 55% marks, without rounding off. Final-year students may apply but must show the final marksheet before joining
  • A valid national fellowship for PhD study: CSIR/UGC-JRF, DBT-JRF, UGC-RGNF, ICMR-JRF or another national Government of India fellowship
  • Age: below 28 years on the last date. Relaxation of 5 years for SC, ST, PwD and women, and 3 years for OBC (NCL)

If you do not yet have the fellowship certificate, the ad accepts the admit card and the result page with your roll number marked. Candidates who were offered a seat in the last round and did not join cannot apply. The project table in the ad skips serial number 5, but the total still adds up to 17.

Pay and duration

  • Fellowship as per the guidelines of your funding agency: DST, DBT, CSIR, UGC or ICMR
  • Rail (sleeper class) or bus fare is paid for the final offline interview
  • Application fee Rs 500, non-refundable; SC, ST and PwD are exempt

How to prepare for this application

  • Check your fellowship first. Without a valid national JRF you cannot apply.
  • Read the group list. Pick two or three labs whose topics match your master's project.
  • Prepare a 3-minute research talk. Online interviews are short. Lead with your own results.
  • Revise core biology. Expect questions on molecular biology, biochemistry and basic genetics.
  • Read the faculty's recent papers. Our Find a supervisor page lists researchers by institute.
