The advertisement is No. DMRL/HRD/JRF/2026/01. DRDO published it on 6 October 2026. The ad says applications close 21 days after publication, and DRDO’s vacancy page gives 27 October 2026 as the end date. The work is research on advanced materials and processing technologies. No project or guide is named.

What the DMRL advanced materials JRFs will do

  • Do research on new materials and processing technologies at a DRDO laboratory
  • Work in one of four streams: metallurgy and materials, mechanical, chemical engineering or physics
  • Move up to SRF after an assessment at two years, if recommended

Why this role matters

Eighteen seats is a large intake for one lab. DMRL works on the alloys and ceramics used in aircraft engines, armour and missiles. A JRF here can move up to SRF and may register for a part-time PhD. That makes it a strong start for a materials career.

Eligibility

  • JRF-01 to 03 (engineering): a first-class B.E. or B.Tech. in the discipline with a valid GATE score, or a first-class M.E. or M.Tech. in the discipline with a first-class B.E. or B.Tech. in the same discipline
  • JRF-01 counts metallurgical engineering, materials science, materials engineering and materials technology
  • JRF-04 (physics): an M.Sc. in physics with first division and a valid NET
  • Age: at most 28 years. Relaxation of 5 years for SC and ST and 3 years for OBC. The ad counts age “as on the closing date of interview”
  • Anyone who was a JRF in any DRDO lab before is not eligible

Shortlisting is by GATE or NET score for B.E., B.Tech. and M.Sc. holders, and by M.E. or M.Tech. marks for those degrees. The score must be valid on the interview date. Applications go to a Gmail address printed in the official ad: dmrlhrd@gmail.com. Government employees need an NOC.

Pay and duration

  • Rs 37,000 a month plus HRA as per DRDO rules
  • Up to 4 years: 2 years at first, then 2 more on review
  • Part-time PhD registration may be allowed with the Director’s approval
  • Medical care for self only; no TA or DA

How to apply

Download the DMRL application form (Excel) and fill it in. Email it to dmrlhrd@gmail.com with one PDF of all your scanned documents: degrees and marksheets, GATE or NET scorecard, photo ID, photo, caste certificate and NOC if needed. Name both files with the post serial number and your name, for example “2Srinivas”. Show marks as percentages. See also the DRDO vacancy page.

Key dates

  • Published on the DRDO website: 6 October 2026
  • Last date: 27 October 2026
  • Interview: in Hyderabad, date to be announced

How to prepare for this application

  • Name your files correctly. The ad gives the format: post number, then your name.
  • Convert CGPA to percentage. Attach your university's conversion rule, as the ad asks.
  • Revise materials basics. Phase diagrams, heat treatment, mechanical testing and diffraction.
  • Check your GATE or NET date. It must still be valid on the interview day.
  • Prepare for a technical panel. Explain your final-year project in simple steps.
