Job Description

This applied scientist job in Bangalore is in InMobi’s algorithmic and research science team. You will design the algorithms behind real-time ad auctions, pricing and traffic allocation. The team uses bandits, reinforcement learning, game theory and Bayesian methods, and it publishes research.

At a glance

  • Position: Applied Scientist III (full time, requisition 11490)
  • Where: Bengaluru, India
  • Degree: PhD in CS, statistics, maths, operations research, physics or a related field strongly preferred (not required)
  • Experience: 4–7 years on algorithmic or applied research; InMobi also hires at Applied Scientist II and Staff levels
  • Posted: 15 September 2026
  • Apply: open until filled (re-checked 19 November 2026)

What the applied scientist does

  • Design and build algorithms for real-time auctions, dynamic pricing, bid shaping, pacing and traffic allocation
  • Use online learning, reinforcement learning, bandits, forecasting, game theory and Bayesian models
  • Work in non-stationary and adversarial settings at very large scale
  • Deploy models with engineering teams and run live experiments with fast feedback
  • Join scientific design reviews and raise the team’s standards
  • Publish research and give internal seminars

Why this role matters

An ad exchange runs millions of auctions every second. Small changes to pricing or allocation move real money for buyers and sellers. Many of these problems have no ready-made solution. The posting asks for researchers who formulate their own models and test their assumptions, and it values papers at venues such as NeurIPS, ICML, KDD and EC.

What InMobi is looking for

  • PhD in computer science, statistics, mathematics, operations research, physics or a related field strongly preferred; research depth and production impact can count instead
  • 4–7 years on algorithmic or applied research problems, with significant production deployment
  • Deep grounding in one or more of: learning theory, optimisation, algorithms, probability; causal inference, game or auction theory; online learning, bandits, RL, Bayesian methods
  • Scientific Python: NumPy, SciPy, PyTorch or TensorFlow
  • Comfort with Spark, distributed computing and large datasets
  • A researcher’s mindset and end-to-end ownership

Nice to have

  • A publication record at venues such as NeurIPS, ICML, AISTATS, KDD, UAI, WSDM, EC, SODA or COLT
  • Experience in ad tech, marketplaces or dynamic pricing

Pay and location

The posting does not state pay. The role is based in Bengaluru.

How to apply

Apply through the official InMobi job posting. InMobi’s posting does not give a closing date, so the role is open until filled; ResearchJobs.in will re-check this listing on 19 November 2026. Check the posting for location and work-authorisation details before you apply.

How to prepare for this application

  • Revise auction theory basics: first- and second-price auctions, reserve prices and bid shading
  • Be ready to derive and compare bandit algorithms such as UCB and Thompson sampling
  • Prepare one research project where you built your own model, and explain the assumptions you tested
  • Think about how to run a fair online experiment when buyers react to your changes
  • Practise explaining a mathematical idea to an engineer in plain words
