The advertisement is No. ARCI/HRD/RECT/1/2026, published on 22 October 2026. ARCI is an autonomous R&D centre of the Department of Science and Technology (DST). Two posts are for metallurgy or materials science (1 UR, 1 OBC). Two are for mechanical engineering (1 UR, 1 OBC). The same advertisement also lists non-scientific posts. This listing covers only Scientist B. The ad prints the address as “RCI-New Airport Road”, which looks like a typo for ARCI.
What an ARCI Scientist B in energy materials does
- Work in any of ARCI’s running R&D projects
- Areas named in the ad: energy materials and systems, surface engineering, ceramics, carbon materials and powder metallurgy
- Take lab results towards technology, which is ARCI’s main mission
Why this role matters
Scientist B is the entry grade for a permanent research career in a DST lab. Few such posts are open to fresh B.Tech graduates. ARCI works close to industry, so the projects often end in real products. Energy materials is one of its biggest areas.
Eligibility
- B.E. or B.Tech from a recognised university in materials engineering, materials science and engineering, metallurgical engineering, or materials and metallurgical engineering
- Or B.E. or B.Tech in mechanical engineering
- Desirable: a master’s degree in one of these subjects, and one year of R&D experience
- Age: 30 years or less on the closing date. SC get 5 years and OBC-NCL 3 years, only against posts reserved for them. PwD and ex-servicemen as per Government of India orders
- Indian citizens only
Selection has three steps. First comes screening. Then there is a computer-based written exam in Hyderabad only. It has 100 multiple-choice questions for 300 marks, with one mark taken off for each wrong answer. Ninety questions are on your discipline and ten on reasoning. At least ten candidates per vacancy go to interview. The final merit list is 50% exam and 50% interview. Exam dates are not yet given.
Pay and duration
- Pay Level 10 of the 7th CPC. The ad gives total pay of about Rs 1,18,110 a month at the start of the level
- This total includes basic pay, DA, HRA and transport allowance
- Other benefits listed: NPS, gratuity, group insurance, medical cover, children’s education allowance and LTC

- Do some reasoning tests. Ten questions cover analytical skills and logical reasoning.
- Read about ARCI's centres. Know its work on fuel cells, batteries, solar, coatings and ceramics before the interview.
- Keep the fee receipt ready. The form needs the transfer details and a copy of the receipt.
