About the work

The full title is a PhD studentship in the development of an integrated pre-clinical pipeline for safety assessment of small molecule and peptide-based radioconjugates, using in vivo PET imaging and multimodal ex vivo tissue analysis.

The Department of Radiology, in partnership with AstraZeneca, is offering the studentship to develop new approaches for the safety assessment of next-generation radiopharmaceuticals. Radioconjugates deliver a radioactive payload to a target, which makes where that payload ends up a safety question as much as an efficacy one. Building a pipeline that can answer it before a drug reaches people is the point of the project.

What you need

  • A motivated, enthusiastic and inquisitive student with an interest in molecular imaging, radiopharmaceutical sciences, oncology, translational medicine and drug development
  • Read the official advertisement for the full entry requirements and funding conditions

Pay

The studentship is advertised as fully funded. The advertisement gives no figure, so confirm the stipend and fee cover with the department before you accept.

How to prepare for this application

  • This is an industry-partnered studentship. AstraZeneca involvement shapes the project and often the data you can publish; ask about it.
  • Molecular imaging is the central skill. Any PET or SPECT experience is worth stating.
  • Quote the reference, RQ51135. Cambridge asks for it on the form and in every email about the post.
  • Check your right to work in the UK. Every Cambridge advert carries this condition, and it is the usual reason an overseas application stalls.
