Job Description

Amazon’s Risk and Compliance Solutions (RCS) team is hiring a Data Scientist II in Bengaluru to build the predictive side of its compliance analytics. The job is to score which open risks and control weaknesses are likely to turn into breaches, measure how well controls work across regions, and get those answers to compliance officers. Financial crime compliance is the first domain, with the approach then extended across the rest of RCS.

About the compliance data science role

• Frame questions with compliance teams and first-line-of-defence partners, then build and calibrate models on control testing, alert and investigation data
• Define the target variable carefully: anchor event dates to control testing cycles and design out temporal leakage
• Quantify control effectiveness across regions and move results into production reporting
• Carry the approach from financial crime compliance into other RCS domains
• Work with Amazon Redshift, SageMaker, AWS Lambda and QuickSight

What Amazon is looking for

• At least 2 years of data scientist experience
• At least 3 years with SQL, a scripting language such as Python, or statistical software such as R, SAS or MATLAB
• At least 3 years with machine learning and statistical modelling tools and techniques
• At least 1 year guiding or coaching a group of researchers, and at least 1 year working with or evaluating AI systems
• At least 1 year creating or contributing to mathematical textbooks, research papers or educational content
• A master’s degree in a STEM field, or equivalent STEM work experience

Nice to have

• A PhD in a STEM field
• Machine learning or data science experience at a large technology company
• Defining benchmarks for assessing GenAI model performance
• Multi-team, cross-disciplinary projects and quantitative business analysis
