Job Description
LuxQuanta, a Barcelona company building continuous-variable quantum key distribution (CV-QKD) systems, is looking for an integrated photonic circuit (PIC) engineer to drive its work on photonic integration. The role combines R&D on PICs for QKD with hands-on characterisation, product decisions and European research projects, and it covers the full path from chip to product: packaging, system manufacturing, testing and development. Moving QKD optics onto chips is one of the main ways the industry hopes to make QKD smaller and cheaper.
At a glance
- Role: Integrated Photonic Circuit (PIC) Engineer
- Location: Barcelona, Spain (hybrid model, flexible hours)
- Degree: Engineering degree in telecom, microelectronics/RF, optics/photonics, physics or similar
- Language: English at fluent B2/C1 level or above
- Apply: open until filled (re-checked 14 October 2026)
What the role covers
- Carry out R&D on photonic integration for quantum key distribution
- Take part in leading European projects in the field
- Work with software, hardware and production teams on new products
- Contribute to technical decisions that shape the product roadmap
- Characterise PICs hands-on and supervise characterisation work
- Define and carry out work on PIC packaging, system manufacturing, testing and product development
What LuxQuanta is looking for
- Experience with photonic integrated circuits in design, characterisation, fabrication processes or packaging
- A broad understanding of PIC platforms and the steps involved in developing PIC-based products
- High proficiency in English (fluent B2/C1 or above)
- A proactive attitude with strong analytical and communication skills
- An engineering degree in telecommunications, microelectronics/RF, optics/photonics, physics or a related field
Nice to have
- Industrial experience developing PIC-based products
Pay and location
LuxQuanta mentions a competitive salary, private health insurance, childcare vouchers, subsidised lunch at the office, flexible hours with a hybrid model and short Fridays in summer. No salary figure is stated.
