Job Description

Intel is hiring a neuromorphic AI research scientist for its Neuromorphic Computing Lab, part of the CTO Office. The role designs brain-inspired AI algorithms for robotics, signal processing and control on edge hardware. It helps move Intel’s neuromorphic chip research toward products.

At a glance

  • Position: Neuromorphic/AI Research Scientist, requisition JR0284193 (experienced hire)
  • Where: Santa Clara, California; also Hillsboro (Oregon), Folsom (California), Austin (Texas) or Phoenix (Arizona); hybrid
  • Pay: $170,500 to $315,490 a year across US locations
  • Apply: open until filled (re-checked 31 October 2026)

What the neuromorphic AI research scientist does

  • Design and analyse neuromorphic AI algorithms for robotics, signal processing, control and learning on edge platforms
  • Build research-quality software: APIs, kernels and benchmarking tools
  • Prototype under real limits of quantisation, sparsity, memory, latency and energy
  • Turn algorithm needs into hardware specifications with hardware and software teams
  • Build benchmarks with baselines and ablation studies
  • Publish at leading conferences and journals, and present to customers and partners

Why this role matters

Robots, drones and sensors need AI that runs on very little power. Neuromorphic chips such as Intel’s Loihi process events sparsely, like neurons, and can save a lot of energy. The hard part is algorithms that use this hardware well on real tasks. This role works on exactly that, with a path from research to product.

What Intel is looking for

  • A PhD (or equivalent research experience) in computational neuroscience, computer science, electrical engineering, applied mathematics, robotics or a related field
  • At least one project turning research ideas into working, rigorously evaluated prototypes
  • At least three publications in leading journals or conferences on AI/ML, edge computing, robotics or control
  • At least two years with state-of-the-art AI models and optimisation, plus control and dynamical systems, signal processing or probabilistic inference
  • At least two years of scientific programming (for example Python or C/C++) with good software practice

Nice to have

  • Open-source releases or widely used libraries
  • Edge AI accelerators or event-based sensors
  • Quantisation and low-precision arithmetic
  • Software for robotics or real-time control
  • Performance work in C/C++ or assembler, profiling and benchmarking, and hardware architecture

Pay and location

The posting gives an annual salary range of $170,500 to $315,490 for US locations. Pay within the range depends on the work location, skills, experience and education. Intel’s package also includes stock bonuses and benefits. The role follows Intel’s hybrid work model.

How to apply

Apply through the official Intel job posting. Intel’s posting does not give a closing date, so the role is open until filled; ResearchJobs.in will re-check this listing on 31 October 2026. Check the posting for location and work-authorisation details before you apply.

How to prepare for this application

  • Prepare a talk on one algorithm you took from idea to benchmark, with the baselines and ablations you ran
  • Read about spiking neural networks, event-based sensing and Intel's Loihi research chips
  • Be ready to discuss how quantisation and sparsity change accuracy, latency and energy on a real task
  • Show code you wrote that others used, such as a library, kernel or benchmark
  • Think about how you would turn an algorithm's needs into a hardware requirement
