About the work
The Loke Centre for Trophoblast Research was founded in 2007 as a centre of excellence promoting the scientific study of the placenta, early development and maternal-fetal interactions during pregnancy. It brings together over 30 principal investigators, many of them recognised international experts.
The Centre has an opening for a Next Generation Fellow whose work will complement and build on its existing programmes. These fellowships are described as a springboard to a long career in placental and reproductive biology, and as highly flexible to suit individual needs, so that the holder can develop as an independent researcher.
Holders are expected, and supported, to apply for research fellowships or career development awards from research councils and other funders, or for a faculty position. That is the real value here: the post exists to get you to the next one.
What you need
- A PhD in a relevant area of reproductive, developmental or placental biology
- A research direction of your own that complements the Centre’s programmes
- Read the official advertisement for the full person specification

How to prepare for this application
- This is a transitional fellowship. Your application should name the award you intend to apply for next.
- Complementarity matters. Show how your work adds something the Centre's 30 investigators do not already cover.
- Quote the reference, PM50284. Cambridge asks for it on the form and in every email about the post.
- Check your right to work in the UK. Every Cambridge advert carries this condition, and it is the usual reason an overseas application stalls.
