PhD Position in Real-Time Grid Simulation for Electrified Industry at Uppsala University
Job Description
The Division of Electricity in Uppsala University’s Department of Electrical Engineering is hiring a PhD student in real-time simulation of electric grids. The project is part of a consortium on optimising electricity use in industry, and it combines real-time simulation, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing and data-driven methods, in close collaboration with academic and industrial partners. The work is both theoretical and applied, and the department pays its doctoral students a salary supplement.

About the real-time simulation PhD
- Develop and evaluate models of relevant electric grids for real-time simulation and digital twins
- Carry out hardware-in-the-loop tests of electric components and communication protocols

What Uppsala University is looking for
- A master’s degree in engineering physics, energy systems, electrical engineering or a similar field; or 240 credits including 60 at master’s level and a 15-credit independent project; or equivalent knowledge
- Experience with simulation, calculation or programming tools such as MATLAB Simulink
- Excellent spoken and written English
- Strong motivation, structure, and the ability to work alone and in groups
Nice to have
- Swedish language skills
Pay and location
Swedish doctoral students are salaried employees. This is a 48-month fixed-term, full-time post in Uppsala, starting as agreed, and the Department of Electrical Engineering adds a salary supplement for its doctoral students.
