Job Description

Mid Sweden University is recruiting a PhD student in engineering physics to develop aluminium-based batteries. The project studies the electrolyte and both electrodes, and a central aim is to understand how charge is stored in aluminium batteries under different operating conditions. The student joins the Engineering Physics group, part of the FSCN research centre.

About the aluminium battery PhD project

• Synthesise and characterise battery materials
• Run electrochemical tests and analyse the data
• Carry out theoretical analysis of charge-storage mechanisms
• Work with national and international project partners
• Take doctoral courses, present at conferences and publish in peer-reviewed journals

Selection weighs scientific competence and personal qualities: aptitude for research, the quality of earlier work such as bachelor’s and master’s theses, and the ability to work both independently and with others in materials physics.

What Mid Sweden University is looking for

• A second-cycle (master’s-level) qualification, or 240 credits including at least 60 at second-cycle level, or equivalent knowledge
• At least 90 credits in engineering physics or equivalent knowledge
• A strong interest in experimental research and analytical work

Nice to have

• Research experience in making and testing batteries, especially aluminium batteries

Pay and location

The advert says salary follows Mid Sweden University’s scale for doctoral students. Swedish doctoral students are salaried employees rather than stipend holders, and the salary follows the university’s scale for doctoral students. The first appointment is for one year and can be renewed, up to four years in total.
