Job Description

Uppsala University’s Department of Medical Biochemistry and Microbiology (IMBIM) is hiring a permanent professor in medical bacteriology. The subject covers antimicrobial resistance, bacterial pathogenesis, host-pathogen interactions and bacterial physiology, and the department welcomes molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, infection biology and large-scale methods such as genomics, proteomics, metabolomics or microbiome research. IMBIM will lead a new national strategic research area in antimicrobial resistance, due to be set up later this year.

About IMBIM

IMBIM’s research is organised in three linked sections: Biochemistry and Cancer, Infection and Immunity, and Genetics and Genomics. It works closely with the Uppsala Antibiotic Center, the ENABLE-2 antibiotic drug discovery programme and the SciLifeLab infrastructure. International referees may review applications.

What UU is looking for

  • Independent research of very high international quality, with a record of planning and leading research and winning competitive grants
  • Well-documented supervision at all levels, including doctoral students
  • Substantial teaching merits and at least ten weeks of university teacher training including doctoral supervisor training (or within two years)
  • Documented ability to teach in Swedish or English
  • Scientific excellence in experimental approaches and interdisciplinary collaboration

Nice to have

  • Administrative and leadership experience
  • Outreach, science communication, editorial work, innovation or entrepreneurship
