Job Description
The Chicago Quantum Exchange at the University of Chicago is hiring a Quantum Network Manager to launch and run the Midwest Quantum Network Facility. The job covers overseeing hardware and software experiments and deployments on the network, reducing optical losses, optimising network control, integrating new quantum nodes and components, and working with partners such as Argonne National Laboratory. It needs a mix of telecom, programming, project-management, field-deployment and customer-relations experience.

Responsibilities
- Launch and maintain the Midwest Quantum Network Facility: reduce optical losses, optimise network control and applications, integrate control devices and new quantum components and protocols
- Lead expansion of the network infrastructure to add quantum nodes
- Represent the facility with industry partners, federal agencies and research collaborators
- Work with central IT and facilities teams, and ensure compliance with university, government and industry security rules
- Turn technical milestones into clear narratives for CQE leadership and the board
- Develop secure quantum networking technologies with partner organisations, including Argonne National Laboratory
What University of Chicago is looking for
- A college or university degree in a related field and 7+ years of relevant work experience (minimum)
- Preferably a bachelor’s or higher in electrical engineering, quantum engineering, physics or computer science
- Preferably 7+ years with classical or quantum networks, including network timing, optical switching and synchronisation
- Deep understanding of optical fibre propagation, photonics and fibre losses, and familiarity with entanglement, quantum memories or QKD protocols
- Programming (Python, C/C++), security and compliance, and routing, switching and firewall skills
Pay and location
The University of Chicago gives a pay range of US$130,000–155,000 as its good-faith estimate, and the role is benefits-eligible.
