Job Description

The Computer Science Group of the Centre for Quantum Technologies at NUS is hiring a Research Assistant in cryptography. The work is on the algorithms and computational complexity of lattice problems and their use in cryptography, including post-quantum cryptography: lattice problems underpin most of the new quantum-resistant encryption and signature standards. It is a research role suited to a bachelor’s or master’s graduate who wants hands-on experience before a PhD, and prior lattice or cryptography knowledge is helpful but not essential.

At a glance

  • Position: Research Assistant
  • Group: Computer Science Group, Centre for Quantum Technologies
  • Location: Kent Ridge Campus, Singapore
  • Degree: Bachelor’s or master’s in computer science, mathematics or similar
  • Posted: 7 September 2026 (Req ID 34343)
  • Apply: open until filled (re-checked 14 October 2026)

What you will do

  • Develop and analyse algorithms for lattice problems
  • Study the computational hardness of lattice problems
  • Explore applications to cryptography and post-quantum cryptography
  • Review literature, and implement and evaluate research ideas where appropriate
  • Help prepare research papers and technical reports

What NUS is looking for

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, mathematics or a closely related field
  • A strong background in algorithms, theoretical computer science, discrete mathematics, probability, linear algebra or cryptography
  • Good mathematical and problem-solving ability
  • Strong written and spoken communication, and the ability to research independently and in a team

Nice to have

  • Prior exposure to lattice algorithms, computational complexity or cryptography (desirable, not essential)

Pay and location

NUS does not publish a salary in this posting; research assistant pay follows NUS scales. There is no closing date in the posting.

How to apply

Apply through the official NUS job posting. NUS’s posting does not give a closing date, so the role is open until filled; ResearchJobs.in will re-check this listing on 14 October 2026. Check the posting for location and work-authorisation details before you apply.

How to prepare for this application

  • Learn the basics of LWE, SIS and lattice reduction (LLL, BKZ), and why ML-KEM and ML-DSA rely on them.
  • Show a proof or algorithm write-up you did, even from a course project.
  • If you have coded any lattice or crypto algorithm, bring it.
  • Say whether you are thinking of a PhD afterwards; RA posts are often a stepping stone.
