About the work
The McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research invites applications for a full-time, fixed-term post funded by the Leventis Foundation and the Institute. Funds are available for 24 months in the first instance.
The postholder does two things: complete the scientific analysis and interpretation of metallic and metallurgical material from the excavations at Ayia Irini on the Cycladic island of Kea, Greece, and then write up and fully publish those results.
Supervision is shared. At the McDonald Institute it is co-supervised by Professor Cyprian Broodbank, Disney Professor of Archaeology and Institute Director, with expertise in Cycladic archaeology, and Professor Marcos Martinón-Torres, Pitt-Rivers Professor of Archaeological Science. External supervision comes from Professor Natalie Abell at the University of Michigan, who directs publications at Ayia Irini, and Dr Evangelia Kiriatzi at the Fitch Laboratory.
What you need
- A background in archaeological science, archaeometallurgy or materials analysis applied to archaeology
- Experience with analytical techniques for metals, and with writing results for publication
- Read the official advertisement for the full person specification

How to prepare for this application
- Publication is half the job. The post exists to finish and publish an analysis, so show you have written up before.
- Aegean Bronze Age context helps. So does hands-on time with SEM-EDS or similar.
- Quote the reference, JC51118. Cambridge asks for it on the form and in every email about the post.
- Check your right to work in the UK. Every Cambridge advert carries this condition, and it is the usual reason an overseas application stalls.
