Job Description
Bosch is hiring a research engineer in generative AI and computer vision in Bengaluru to develop deep learning methods for real-world visual inspection. The role mixes applied research and engineering: generating synthetic image data, building defect and anomaly detection models, and keeping deployed models reliable as image conditions change.
At a glance
- Role: Research Engineer – Generative AI and Computer Vision
- Employer: Bosch Global Software Technologies
- Location: Bengaluru (Koramangala), India
- Experience: At least 3 years of professional or applied research experience in computer vision, deep learning or generative AI
- Education: PhD, MS or MTech in computer science, AI, ML, data science, electrical or electronics engineering, robotics, mechatronics, applied maths or a related field
- Reference: REF292398C
- Apply: open until filled (re-checked 13 October 2026)
About the generative AI and computer vision research engineer role
- Research and build generative approaches, including diffusion models, GANs and image-to-image methods, to create realistic synthetic image datasets for rare defects and imbalanced classes
- Develop and evaluate models for industrial inspection: classification, defect and anomaly detection, object detection, segmentation and representation learning
- Work with CNN, transformer and multimodal architectures
- Study data-efficient learning such as transfer, self-supervised, few-shot and active learning, and domain adaptation
- Build monitoring methods that catch data drift, changing image conditions, performance drops and out-of-distribution inputs in deployed models
- Take methods from experiment to scalable, production-ready solutions
What Bosch is looking for
- Solid grounding in machine learning, deep learning and computer vision
- Strong Python and PyTorch, plus NumPy, pandas, OpenCV and scikit-learn
- Practical experience with vision transformers or detection transformers
- Hands-on generative modelling for images: diffusion models, GANs, VAEs or image-to-image generation
- Experience designing synthetic data or advanced augmentation pipelines, and rigorous evaluation with precision, recall, F1 and ROC/AUC
- Ability to frame research questions, run ablations and interpret results
Nice to have
- Experience with the Hugging Face ecosystem for prototyping
- Knowledge of domain shift, out-of-distribution detection and uncertainty estimation
Pay and location
Bosch’s posting does not state a salary. The role is based at Bosch’s Koramangala campus in Bengaluru.
How to apply
Apply through the official Bosch job posting. Bosch’s posting does not give a closing date, so the role is open until filled; ResearchJobs.in will re-check this listing on 13 October 2026. How to prepare for this application
- Bring a synthetic-data project: explain how you checked that generated images actually improved a downstream model.
- Revise anomaly detection: be ready to compare reconstruction-based, embedding-based and few-shot defect detection.
- Talk about drift: describe how you would monitor a deployed inspection model and when you would trigger retraining.
- Metrics in depth: expect questions on choosing thresholds from precision-recall trade-offs for rare defects.
- Code: have a clean PyTorch repository ready to show.
