Job Description
NUS’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering is hiring a Research Fellow in optoelectronic characterisation to study how new materials such as perovskites, quantum dots, organic semiconductors and 2D materials absorb and emit light. The fellow will run hyperspectral imaging, spatially resolved spectroscopy and microscopy, and build and operate advanced optical platforms. Ph.D. candidates close to graduating can apply.
At a glance
- Post: Research Fellow (Optoelectronic Characterization)
- Department: Materials Science and Engineering
- Posted: 5 August 2026
- Apply: open until filled (re-checked 14 October 2026)
What the post involves
- Characterise the optical and photophysical properties of perovskites, quantum dots, organic semiconductors and 2D materials
- Run hyperspectral imaging, spatially resolved spectroscopy and microscopy to study carrier dynamics, defects and heterogeneity
- Develop and operate optical characterisation platforms
- Analyse multidimensional datasets, publish, and help supervise students
Why this post matters
New light-emitting and light-harvesting materials only become good devices once researchers understand, at the microscale, where light is lost. Hyperspectral and time-resolved methods reveal exactly that, and these are core skills for optics and photonics researchers.
What NUS is looking for
- A Ph.D. (or one expected soon) in materials science, physics, optical engineering, electrical engineering, chemistry or a related field
- Research experience in optical spectroscopy, photophysics, microscopy or hyperspectral imaging
- Hands-on experience with techniques such as photoluminescence, time-resolved or confocal spectroscopy
Nice to have
- Experience building optical setups
Pay and location
NUS does not state a salary in this advertisement; research staff pay in Singapore follows the institution’s own scales and depends on qualifications and experience.
How to apply
Apply through the official NUS job posting. NUS’s posting does not give a closing date, so the role is open until filled; ResearchJobs.in will re-check this listing on 14 October 2026. Check the posting for location and work-authorisation details before you apply.
