Job Description

The Centre for Quantum Technologies at NTU Singapore is recruiting a Research Fellow in quantum physics to take charge of an experiment developing a quantum processor based on neutral atom arrays (requisition R00025636).

At a glance

  • Position: Research Fellow (one post)
  • Where: NTU Main Campus, Singapore
  • Pay: not stated in the posting
  • Duration: not stated; NTU research fellowships are usually fixed-term contracts
  • Apply by: open until filled; posted 28 August 2026

Neutral-atom arrays hold single atoms in optical tweezers and use Rydberg states to make them interact, one of the leading routes to programmable quantum processors and simulators. The advertisement asks the fellow to develop numerical twins for the digital quantum computer and to map many-body problems onto Hamiltonians the group’s machines can run.

Why this role matters

Numerical twins let a team test control sequences and algorithms before spending scarce machine time, which is where computation and experiment meet in quantum hardware work.

About the quantum physics research fellow post at NTU

  • Develop numerical twins for the digital quantum computer, as the advertisement states
  • Map many-body problems into classes of Hamiltonians compatible with the group’s experimental machines
  • Take charge of the experimental apparatus, data acquisition and analysis
  • Supervise and train undergraduate and PhD students, and report weekly to the principal investigator

Eligibility

  • A PhD in theoretical physics, specialising in quantum physics, optics or a closely related field
  • Proven knowledge or exposure to condensed-matter physics, atomic, molecular and optical physics, and Rydberg physics
  • Ability to work independently and with an experimental research team
  • Experience supervising or mentoring students or junior researchers is an advantage

NTU states that only shortlisted candidates will be notified, and gives NTU as the hiring institution.

Pay and duration

  • The posting does not state a salary
  • NTU advertises the post as full time; the contract length is not stated in the advertisement

How to apply

Apply through NTU’s careers portal on the official posting (requisition R00025636). Prepare a CV with your publication list, a short statement of research interests, and contacts for referees. The advertisement gives no closing date, so apply early; NTU removes postings once filled.

Key dates

  • Posted on NTU’s careers portal on 28 August 2026
  • No closing date stated; the post is open until filled

Please read the official NTU posting (requisition R00025636) before applying, and browse more quantum technology jobs on ResearchJobs.in.

How to prepare for this application

  • Tweezers and Rydberg physics: revise trapping, imaging and Rydberg blockade, and the main sources of infidelity in gates.
  • Digital twins: prepare to explain how you would simulate the machine, including noise, and validate the model against data.
  • Hamiltonian mapping: practise mapping a many-body problem onto an Ising or Rydberg Hamiltonian, and state the approximations.
  • Lab leadership: the fellow runs an apparatus and mentors students, so bring examples of both.
  • Singapore context: read recent work from NTU's quantum groups and the national quantum programme before the interview.

About NTU Singapore

Nanyang Technological University (NTU Singapore) is a research-intensive university in Singapore with strengths across engineering, science, computing and medicine. Its Centre for Quantum Technologies node, School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences and College of Computing and Data Science host quantum information, photonics and machine-learning groups, and research fellowships there are common steps between a PhD and a faculty or industry research post.
