Job Description

This RF engineer job in Bangalore is in Lam Research’s Global Products Group. You will design and test the RF systems that power the plasma inside Lam’s etch and deposition tools. A PhD with no work experience is enough to apply.

At a glance

  • Position: RF Engineer 3 (full time, on site, requisition 204424)
  • Where: Bengaluru, India
  • Experience: Bachelor’s + 5 years, Master’s + 3 years, or a PhD with no experience
  • Frequency range: 100 kHz to 100 MHz, from watts to kilowatts
  • Apply: open until filled (re-checked 5 November 2026)

What the RF engineer does

  • Carry out electrical engineering research, design, development and evaluation for electrical and electro-mechanical systems
  • Design or select, test and document RF delivery systems from 100 kHz to 100 MHz, in the watt to kilowatt range
  • Work with electrical, mechanical, software, process and supplier teams on custom and OEM embedded components
  • Prepare and analyse test plans to show that technical requirements are met
  • Gather and analyse data and present it at design, project and programme reviews

Why this role matters

Plasma is how chipmakers etch and deposit the finest features on a wafer, and RF power is what creates that plasma. Lam calls this a graduate-eligible role. It is a rare industry opening where a fresh PhD in RF, microwave or plasma engineering can start without prior work experience.

What Lam Research is looking for

  • Bachelor’s with 5+ years of related experience, a Master’s with 3 years, a PhD with no experience, or equivalent experience
  • Knowledge of electromagnetic field theory and RF metrology: power meters, and network, impedance and spectrum analysers
  • Familiarity with high-voltage (above 1 kV) design rules from DC to 100 MHz is desired
  • Experience with SPICE, LabVIEW, MathCAD or MATLAB, and HFSS, COMSOL or Microwave Studio is preferred
  • Knowledge of plasma processing, plasma sources and plasma loads is a plus
  • Strong analysis, troubleshooting, communication and presentation skills

Nice to have

  • Experience in semiconductor capital equipment or similar industrial equipment
  • Plasma physics and simulation tools such as VizGlow and EMA3D
  • RF or microwave generators, impedance matching networks, transmission lines and antennas
  • Industry standards such as SEMI, NFPA 79, NEC, UL, EN and IEC
  • Willingness to travel abroad

Pay and location

The posting does not state pay. It is an on-site role in Bengaluru.

How to apply

Apply through the official Lam Research job posting. Lam Research’s posting does not give a closing date, so the role is open until filled; ResearchJobs.in will re-check this listing on 5 November 2026. Check the posting for location and work-authorisation details before you apply.

How to prepare for this application

  • Revise impedance matching for plasma loads: L-networks, pi-networks and why a plasma's impedance changes during a process
  • Be ready to explain a network analyser measurement you made, including calibration
  • If your PhD used HFSS, COMSOL or CST, prepare one simulation you checked against a measurement
  • Read the basics of capacitively and inductively coupled plasma sources used in etch tools
  • Prepare a high-voltage safety example: creepage, clearance and how you avoided arcing in a design
