The Alexa Availability team in Alexa Excellence is hiring a senior applied scientist in Chennai. The role leads research on the ML and statistical models behind Alexa’s reliability: multivariate time-series modelling, statistical anomaly detection, predicting failures, LLM-based operational intelligence and adaptive alert thresholds. Keeping these AI systems grounded and free of systematic bias is an explicit part of the job.

About the Alexa Availability role

• Lead ML and statistical modelling for Alexa’s availability at very large scale
• Work on multivariate time series, anomaly detection, predictive failure models and adaptive thresholds
• Build LLM-based operational tools grounded with RAG, confidence scoring, knowledge graphs and counterfactual testing
• Set up rigorous evaluation frameworks and reduce hallucination and bias
• Drive the team’s science agenda and mentor other scientists

What Amazon is looking for

• At least 3 years of building machine learning models for business applications
• A PhD, or a master’s degree and at least 6 years of applied research experience
• Programming in Java, C++, Python or a related language
• Experience with neural deep learning methods and machine learning

Nice to have

• Modelling tools such as R, scikit-learn, Spark MLlib, MXNet, TensorFlow, NumPy and SciPy
• Large-scale distributed systems such as Hadoop and Spark
