Job Description

Photonic is hiring a Senior PIC Design Engineer to design and optimise the silicon photonic integrated circuits at the heart of its quantum computer, in which spin qubits are linked by photons on chip and through fibre. You will design first-of-their-kind active and passive circuits at system and device level, work with foundries, run trade studies, propose experiments to validate simulation models, and mentor other designers.

What you will do

• Design and optimise complex, large-scale active and passive silicon PICs at system and device level
• Write software and scripts for design and analysis, and build simulation flows and documentation
• Work with foundries and manufacturers
• Run trade studies on design options, and propose experiments to validate and refine models
• Handle integration with other chips and systems, and present findings to cross-functional teams
• Mentor team members and contribute to Photonic’s IP portfolio

What Photonic is looking for

• A master’s or PhD in electrical engineering, applied physics or a related field
• 5+ years of silicon photonics experience in industry
• Photonic layout in KLayout, Luceda, Cadence, Mentor Graphics or equivalent
• Deep expertise designing and optimising silicon PICs and devices, and Python or MATLAB
• Electromagnetic simulation (Lumerical FDTD, MODE, INTERCONNECT, Tidy3D)
• Optical bench experience with parameter analysers, optical spectrum analysers and lasers, and strong teamwork and writing

Pay and location

Photonic lists a base salary range of CA$117,000–161,000 a year for this role. Photonic lists stock options, relocation assistance for global talent and comprehensive benefits alongside base pay.
