About the W-band and G-band microwave posts at CSIR-CEERI
- Design and develop interaction structures for W-band and G-band devices
- Characterise the structures in the lab
- Work in CEERI’s high power microwave devices group
The ad gives the project title and the qualifications. It does not list duties; the points above follow the title.
Why this role matters
High-frequency microwave sources power radar, satellite links and imaging. Few Indian labs build them, and CEERI is the main one. Hands-on work here is hard to find anywhere else in the country.
Eligibility
- PAT-II: M.Tech./M.E. in ECE or Microwave; or B.Tech./B.E. in ECE or Microwave with two years of R&D; or M.Sc. in Physics, Electronics, Optoelectronics or Microwave with two years of R&D
- Senior PAT: M.Tech./M.E. in ECE or Microwave; or B.Tech./B.E. in the same with two years of R&D; or M.Sc. in the same subjects with three years of R&D
- Upper age limit: 40 years for Senior PAT and 35 years for PAT-II
Each engagement starts for six months, or until the project ends, and can be extended in six-month steps. Total time as project staff across CSIR labs cannot exceed six years. Anyone who has already served six years is not eligible. Age is relaxed by 5 years for SC/ST/PwBD/women and 3 years for OBC. Interviews are online on MS Teams for shortlisted candidates. AcSIR Ph.D. students who hold a fellowship cannot apply.
Pay and duration
- Senior PAT: ₹42,000 a month
- PAT-II: the table shows ₹28,000. A footnote gives ₹35,000 to those selected through NET, GATE or a similar national exam, and ₹28,000 to others
- Six months to start, extended in six-month steps

How to prepare for this application
- Know vacuum electronic devices: how TWTs, klystrons and backward-wave oscillators use slow-wave structures.
- Revise the bands: W-band is about 75-110 GHz and G-band about 140-220 GHz; know why loss and machining get harder.
- Show EM simulation: dispersion and interaction impedance in CST Studio or HFSS is a strong point.
- Bring lab skills: vector network analyser use, cold testing and fabrication tolerances.
- Check your pay band: keep your GATE or NET proof ready, since it decides the PAT-II rate.
