Job Description

This medical imaging AI scientist job in Bangalore is a senior research post at GE HealthCare. You will lead research on image analysis, foundation models and physics-aware AI for scanners and clinical workflows. You will also take that research through clinical validation into products.

At a glance

  • Position: Senior Staff AI Scientist (full time, requisition R4042051)
  • Where: EPIP Phase II, Bengaluru, India
  • Degree: PhD in computer science, electrical, biomedical engineering, applied physics, robotics or a close field
  • Experience: 5–8+ years after the PhD in medical imaging AI, healthcare AI, Physical AI or applied AI research
  • Relocation: Relocation help is offered
  • Apply: open until filled (re-checked 12 November 2026)

What the senior staff AI scientist does

  • Set the long-term research plan for medical image analysis, Physical AI, foundation models and multimodal healthcare AI
  • Lead detection, segmentation, classification, reconstruction and quantitative imaging systems for real clinical use
  • Drive work on vision and multimodal transformers, self- and weakly supervised learning, and physics-informed ML
  • Set standards for robustness, uncertainty, clinical validation, fairness and generalisation across devices and sites
  • Work with clinicians, imaging scientists and regulatory teams, and guide products through clinical validation
  • Mentor senior scientists and postdocs, publish at venues such as MICCAI, CVPR and NeurIPS, and file patents

Why this role matters

An imaging model that works at one hospital often fails on another scanner. This role is about making AI hold up across machines, sites and patients, and then getting it through regulators. It suits a researcher with a strong publication record who wants their work used in clinics.

What GE HealthCare is looking for

  • PhD in computer science, electrical engineering, biomedical engineering, applied physics, robotics or a closely related field
  • 5–8+ years of post-PhD experience in medical imaging AI, healthcare AI, Physical AI or applied AI research
  • Deep skill with PyTorch and large-scale training, and medical image analysis across 2D/3D/4D MRI, CT, PET, X-ray and ultrasound
  • Experience with foundation models, domain adaptation, physics-informed ML and uncertainty-aware inference
  • A strong publication or patent record, and experience leading system-level research
  • Knowledge of MLOps, data governance and medical device rules (FDA, CE, SaMD)

Pay and location

The posting does not state pay. The role is based at GE HealthCare’s EPIP Phase II site in Bengaluru, and relocation help is offered. Workday shows it was first posted in June 2026, so apply soon.

How to apply

Apply through the official GE HealthCare job posting. GE HealthCare’s posting does not give a closing date, so the role is open until filled; ResearchJobs.in will re-check this listing on 12 November 2026. Check the posting for location and work-authorisation details before you apply.

How to prepare for this application

  • Prepare a talk on one imaging system you took from paper to deployment: data, model, validation and what changed in the clinic
  • Be ready to explain how you measured and fixed domain shift across scanners, sites or protocols
  • Revise foundation models for medical images and how you would adapt one to a new modality with little labelled data
  • Have a clear view of the regulatory path for AI as a medical device, and what evidence a regulator expects
  • Show how you mentor others: one example of a junior researcher's project you shaped
