Job Description

This spin qubit engineer job is with Equal1’s Qubit Development team, in Sherbrooke, Canada, or Dublin, Ireland. You will calibrate, tune and improve silicon spin-qubit devices. The aim is higher gate fidelity, longer coherence and better processor performance.

At a glance

  • Position: Spin Qubit Calibration Engineer, full time
  • Where: Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada, or Dublin, Ireland, on site
  • Team: Qubit Development
  • Pay: Not stated in the posting
  • Posted: 23 September 2026
  • Apply: open until filled (re-checked 13 November 2026)

About the spin qubit calibration work

  • Calibrate and tune spin qubits for better gate fidelity and coherence
  • Work with hardware teams to improve qubit initialisation, readout and error correction
  • Help join the quantum hardware to control electronics and software
  • Write automated calibration routines and control sequences
  • Tackle decoherence, charge noise and crosstalk with experiments and data
  • Build Python tools and manage code with Git
  • Keep records of calibrations and present results to the team
  • Contribute to research on more scalable hardware

Why this role matters

Silicon spin qubits could use the same chip factories as normal processors, which may help them scale. Calibration is where a device’s real performance gets decided. Automating it is one of the open problems in the field.

What Equal1 is looking for

  • An MSc or PhD in quantum physics, electrical engineering or a related field
  • Hands-on calibration and measurement of solid-state quantum devices, such as spin or superconducting qubits
  • Strong grounding in quantum mechanics and semiconductor device physics
  • Cryogenic or low-temperature experiments
  • RF and microwave electronics for qubit control
  • Python for analysis and automation, and Git
  • Knowledge of quantum control software and combined hardware-software systems
  • Clear technical writing and presenting

Nice to have

  • Earlier work on spin qubits or other semiconductor quantum devices
  • Quantum error correction and multi-qubit architectures
  • Scalable quantum hardware and quantum information theory
  • Good software practice such as code review and documentation

Pay and location

The posting gives no salary figure. The role is full time and on site, in either Sherbrooke, Canada, or Dublin, Ireland. The posting says nothing about visas or work rights, so check this with Equal1 for your chosen site.

How to apply

Apply through the official Equal1 job posting. Equal1’s posting does not give a closing date, so the role is open until filled; ResearchJobs.in will re-check this listing on 13 November 2026. Check the posting for location and work-authorisation details before you apply.

How to prepare for this application

  • Revise spin qubit basics: charge stability diagrams, Pauli spin blockade, EDSR and Rabi and Ramsey experiments
  • Prepare an example of a calibration loop you automated and how much time it saved
  • Know the main noise sources in silicon devices and how to measure them
  • Show clean Python and Git history from a lab project
  • Say in your application which site you prefer, Sherbrooke or Dublin
