What the process research team leader does
- Lead and motivate a research team, and answer for how the team performs
- Support research projects with route scouting, route optimisation and volume supply
- Focus on scale-up, from gram scale to kilogram scale
- Track project progress so work is delivered on time and to the right quality
- Make sure the right process safety checks are done before any scale-up decision
- Bring new ideas, and keep up with new synthetic and process technology
- Work with research, safety, analytics, procurement, maintenance and management teams
- Make sure your area follows labour, safety and environmental rules
Why this role matters
A new molecule is only useful if it can be made in larger amounts. Process chemists find a route that is safe, cheap and repeatable at kilogram scale. That supply feeds testing and later development. The post sits in BASF’s agricultural business, so it suits an organic chemist who wants to lead a team and stay close to the bench.
What BASF is looking for
- PhD in organic chemistry, with postdoctoral experience
- Sound theory and hands-on practice in organic synthesis, including scale-up of reactions to kilogram scale
- Fluent communication
- A proactive, result-driven and entrepreneurial way of working
- Intercultural and people skills, for project talks with teams around the world
Pay and location
The posting does not state pay. The role is permanent and on-site at BASF’s Innovation Campus in Navi Mumbai.
