The project is titled “Centrifuge and Numerical Modelling of Underground Explosions in Soils”. You will be enrolled at IIT Roorkee. The project pays for travel and stay at IIT Bombay. The Project Jobs page also lists a second notice for the same project that names the post JRF/SRF and gives a three-year term. This listing follows the signed advertisement dated 21 October 2026.
About the geotechnical engineering JRF at IIT Roorkee
- Geotechnical characterisation of soils, including triaxial tests
- Centrifuge tests at IIT Bombay
- Numerical modelling of explosions in soil
- Data analysis and report writing
Why this role matters
Few labs in India test blast effects in soil with a geotechnical centrifuge. This post gives you that rare experience across two IITs. It also opens a route into a PhD at IIT Roorkee.
Eligibility
- B.Tech. in Civil Engineering with a CGPA of at least 7.0/10 or 70%
- And M.Tech. in Geotechnical Engineering or Soil Dynamics with a CGPA of at least 6.5/10 or 65%
- You must have qualified GATE
- Indian nationals only
Check that you meet the eligibility before you apply. Incomplete applications are not considered. The interview is online on Webex. The link goes to shortlisted candidates after screening. No TA/DA is paid. The ad gives no age limit.

- ₹37,000 a month for the first two years, plus 10% HRA
- ₹42,000 a month in the third year, plus 10% HRA
- An eligible candidate may be enrolled for a PhD at IIT Roorkee (project category)
- After the project ends, PhD students move to the institute assistantship, as per IIT Roorkee rules
How to apply
Email your application to akanksha.tyagi@ce.iitr.ac.in with the subject “Application for JRF” by 5 November 2026. Include a detailed CV with degrees, certificates and marks, your research and industry experience, your skills in finite element software and programming, self-attested copies of degree and experience certificates, and the abstract of your M.Tech. thesis. Read the official advertisement (PDF) first.
Key dates
- Last date to apply: 5 November 2026
- Interview: online, for shortlisted candidates
Please read the official IIT Roorkee advertisement before applying, and browse more Junior Research Fellow jobs on ResearchJobs.in.

How to prepare for this application
- Revise soil dynamics: wave propagation in soil, dynamic soil properties and liquefaction basics.
- Learn centrifuge scaling laws: why a model spun at N g mimics a prototype N times larger, and the limits.
- Know triaxial testing well: CU, CD and UU tests, stress paths and how to read the results.
- Show your numerical skills: a model in PLAXIS, ABAQUS or LS-DYNA, with a short script, is a strong talking point.
- Prepare your thesis abstract: the ad asks for it. Make it clear and short. Use our Find a supervisor page to compare geotechnical labs.
