Job Description
PsiQuantum offers a quantum algorithms and compilation internship for postgraduate students and recent graduates, based in Palo Alto, California or remote. Interns work on algorithms for fault-tolerant quantum computers, from optimising common subroutines to compiling them into logical gates and estimating the resources they need.
At a glance
- Role: Intern, Quantum Algorithms and Compilation
- Where: Palo Alto, California, or remote
- Who: postgraduate students or recent postgraduates
- Focus: fault-tolerant algorithms, compilation and resource estimation
- Apply: open until filled (re-checked 11 October 2026)
About the quantum algorithms internship
- Develop quantum algorithms for impactful problems
- Optimise common subroutines used in fault-tolerant quantum algorithms
- Compile quantum algorithms to logical gate sets
- Build in optimisations that take the hardware architecture into account
- Estimate the quantum resources algorithms need
PsiQuantum builds its quantum computers from photons on silicon chips. Photonic qubits are naturally suited to networking and to fusion-based quantum computing, but they need error-correction schemes and algorithms designed around photon loss and the architecture’s building blocks, which is the kind of problem these roles work on.
What PsiQuantum is looking for
- Currently studying for, or having completed, a postgraduate degree related to quantum algorithms, circuit compilation, fault tolerance or another area of quantum computing
- Programming experience, for example Python, and collaborative tools such as Git
- A creative, adaptable approach to problems and the ability to work in a highly collaborative team
Pay and location
The internship can be based in Palo Alto, California, or done remotely. PsiQuantum’s posting lists pay for some locations; check it for the rate that applies to you.
How to apply
Apply through the official PsiQuantum job posting. PsiQuantum’s posting does not give a closing date, so the role is open until filled; ResearchJobs.in will re-check this listing on 11 October 2026. Check the posting for location and work-authorisation details before you apply.

How to prepare for this application
- Subroutines: revise the building blocks of fault-tolerant algorithms, such as arithmetic circuits, state preparation, block encodings and phase estimation.
- Compilation: know how a circuit is compiled into Clifford+T gates and why T gates dominate the cost.
- A small project: implement and cost a toy algorithm in Python and bring the notebook to discuss.
- Git hygiene: a tidy public repository is a strong signal for software-heavy research internships.
- Your thesis: explain in two minutes how your postgraduate work connects to fault tolerance.
About PsiQuantum
PsiQuantum was founded in 2016 with a single aim: to build and deploy million-qubit, fault-tolerant quantum computers. Its architecture is based on silicon photonics, using high-volume semiconductor manufacturing, including partners such as GlobalFoundries, to make the photonic chips its machines are built from.
