Quantum Architecture Internship at PsiQuantum (Brisbane, Palo Alto or Remote)

Application ends: October 11, 2026

Job Description

PsiQuantum is offering a quantum architecture internship focused on fault-tolerant fusion-based quantum computing (FBQC), the approach at the heart of its photonic machines. Internships run throughout the year for three to six months, in Palo Alto, Brisbane or remotely.

At a glance

  • Role: Intern, Quantum Architecture
  • Where: Palo Alto (USA), Brisbane (Australia) or remote
  • Duration: 3 to 6 months, starting throughout the year
  • Focus: fusion-based quantum computing, error correction and decoding
  • Apply: open until filled (re-checked 11 October 2026)

About the quantum architecture internship

  • Develop and study methods for fault-tolerant fusion-based quantum computing
  • Work on project topics such as linear optical networks, FBQC protocols, quantum error-correcting codes, decoding methods, and simulation and modelling
  • Model where errors arise and how they propagate
  • Simulate and benchmark different protocols
  • Document and communicate your results

PsiQuantum builds its quantum computers from photons on silicon chips. Photonic qubits are naturally suited to networking and to fusion-based quantum computing, but they need error-correction schemes and algorithms designed around photon loss and the architecture’s building blocks, which is the kind of problem these roles work on.

What PsiQuantum is looking for

  • A degree in physics, mathematics or computer science, and current or completed postgraduate study related to linear optics or fault tolerance
  • Knowledge of quantum information; familiarity with quantum networks, graph states, stabilizer methods or quantum error correction is desirable
  • Programming in Python, C++ or similar; using GitHub or similar tools is desirable
  • A creative approach to problems and the ability to work in a collaborative team

Pay and location

Placements are offered in Palo Alto, California and Brisbane, Australia, as well as remotely. PsiQuantum’s posting lists pay for some locations; check it for the rate that applies to you.

How to apply

Apply through the official PsiQuantum job posting. PsiQuantum’s posting does not give a closing date, so the role is open until filled; ResearchJobs.in will re-check this listing on 11 October 2026. Check the posting for location and work-authorisation details before you apply.

How to prepare for this application

  • Graph states: revise graph states and how measurements on them implement computation.
  • FBQC: read the 2021 paper that introduced fusion-based quantum computation and be ready to summarise it.
  • Error correction: know the surface code, decoders such as matching, and how erasure (photon loss) differs from Pauli noise.
  • Simulation: show code where you simulated a stabilizer circuit or code; mention tools you used.
  • Timing: since internships start year-round, say clearly when you are available and for how long.

About PsiQuantum

PsiQuantum was founded in 2016 with a single aim: to build and deploy million-qubit, fault-tolerant quantum computers. Its architecture is based on silicon photonics, using high-volume semiconductor manufacturing, including partners such as GlobalFoundries, to make the photonic chips its machines are built from.
