  • Develop hybrid quantum applications, algorithms and solutions in the life sciences that promise practical commercial advantage
  • Work with IonQ’s compiler, cloud and hardware teams on optimised hybrid workflows for trapped-ion computers
  • Evaluate classical and quantum methods, their state of the art and scaling behaviour, and communicate the trade-offs
  • Be part of a client-facing team that defines and solves real-world problems
  • Build reusable software and integrate new quantum algorithms into end-to-end workflows

Life sciences are one of the areas where quantum computers are expected to help first, through simulating molecules and supporting drug discovery. This role sits in IonQ’s Quantum Applications team and combines domain expertise in biology or chemistry with hands-on quantum algorithm development.

What IonQ is looking for

  • A doctorate in a life-sciences field, or equivalent work experience
  • Hands-on experience using and developing computational and ML/AI tools in bioinformatics, molecular biology or advanced therapeutics
  • Experience developing, applying and validating quantum algorithms in the life sciences
  • Expertise in the mathematics behind quantum computing: linear algebra, matrix decompositions, probability, symmetry and complexity
  • Willingness to work closely with customers across time zones, with possible travel
