About the qLDPC researcher role
- Build deep expertise in quantum computing and QEC, particularly for AMO qubits
- Study existing QEC protocols and develop new ones, with freedom to think independently
- Work with hardware partners to develop and optimise QEC protocols for their machines
- Write code to test ideas and contribute to software products
- Share expertise with other Riverlane teams to guide parts of its products

Every quantum computer makes errors far more often than a classical chip, so useful machines will need quantum error correction running continuously, with decoders fast enough to keep up with the hardware. Riverlane works on that layer for many hardware makers at once, which gives its researchers exposure to several qubit technologies.
What Riverlane is looking for
- A PhD in mathematics, physics, computer science or a related field, or equivalent professional experience
- Strong problem-solving skills
- At least one programming language, preferably Python and/or C++
- The ability to work independently and in a team, and to explain complex ideas simply
Nice to have
- Experience in quantum computing
- Experience with qLDPC codes
- Experience in quantum algorithm compilation
- Experience with one or more qubit modalities
Pay and location
Riverlane lists a salary of £60,000–85,000, depending on experience. The role is based in Cambridge, UK. Riverlane’s UK package includes an annual bonus plan, private medical and life insurance, a contributory pension, equity, and 28 days of annual leave plus bank holidays.
