Pasqal is hiring a Quantum Error Correction Engineer in its Hardware department to select, adapt and benchmark error-correcting codes and protocols for its neutral-atom quantum processors, and to feed QEC requirements into the design of future machines.

About the QEC engineer role
- Select, adapt and benchmark QEC codes and protocols under realistic neutral-atom constraints, including detection, decoding and correction
- Develop and evaluate decoders and measure QEC performance under realistic noise models
- Maintain logical error models and error budgets, linked to physical noise models, experimental data and internal emulators
- Help design and benchmark fault-tolerant logical operations and gate strategies
- Give QEC-driven input on future QPU architectures: layout, zoning, connectivity and operation scheduling
- Build QEC simulation tools, write reports and papers, help protect patentable ideas and present at international conferences
Neutral-atom processors hold individual atoms in arrays of optical tweezers and can move them around, which allows flexible connectivity and zoned architectures with separate areas for storage, gates and readout. Atom loss and erasure-type errors are distinctive features that error-correction schemes for these machines must handle. What Pasqal is looking for
- A PhD or equivalent experience in quantum error correction, fault-tolerant quantum computing or a related field
- Strong understanding of error-correcting codes, decoding methods and fault-tolerant protocols
- Interest in neutral-atom platforms and the ability to account for real hardware constraints
- Strong scientific programming, for example in Python, for simulation and data analysis
- Autonomy, rigour, and the ability to work between theory, simulation and experiment in multidisciplinary teams
- Good written and spoken English
Nice to have
- Experience leading small technical projects, including planning, prioritisation and delivery
