IIT Roorkee’s Department of Chemical Engineering invites applications for a postdoctoral fellowship on multifunctional electrocatalysts that can convert carbon dioxide into useful products while also storing energy in batteries, under the mentorship of Prof. Ashish Yadav.

Electrochemistry offers a way to turn captured carbon dioxide into fuels and chemicals using electricity, and some battery designs use carbon dioxide as part of their chemistry. Catalysts that work well for both jobs are an active research target, and designing them combines materials synthesis, electrochemical testing and computational modelling.
About the postdoctoral role

The department wants a strong background in carbon dioxide valorisation and battery energy storage, with both experimental and theoretical or computational expertise. Postdoctoral fellows are registered as students and can use the library, computer centre and hospital facilities. They get 2.5 days of leave per completed calendar month, and the positions are purely temporary.
Eligibility
- Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry or an allied discipline from a premier national or international institute
- At least three first-author research papers in SCI-indexed international journals from your Ph.D.
- Candidates who have submitted their thesis may apply, but must show proof of the Ph.D. award at the interview if shortlisted
- Ph.D. graduates of IIT Roorkee are not eligible
- Desirable: research on carbon dioxide valorisation and battery storage; density functional theory (DFT) modelling; hands-on physico-chemical characterisation (XRD, TEM, SEM, XPS) and electrochemical techniques such as CV, GCD and EIS
Only screened candidates will be called for interview. The selected candidate is expected to join as soon as the offer letter is issued, and either side can end the fellowship with one month’s notice.
Pay and duration
- Rs 80,000 per month (consolidated) plus HRA as applicable, for 2 years
- Contingency grant of Rs 50,000 a year
